ROMANIAN LANGUAGE PREPARATORY YEAR

2026-2027

 

Description

The Romanian Language Preparatory Year is addressed to foreign citizens who wish to undertake a study programme taught in Romanian and have not attended at least three consecutive academic years in Romanian language in a school in the Romanian national system or do not have at least a B1 level of linguistic proficiency in Romanian (to be proven by means of an online test, taken during the admission session).

The Romanian Language Preparatory Year for undergraduate/master/doctoral studies is a one-academic year (10 months), full-time programme, split in 2 semesters.

Candidates to the study programmes of the University of Craiova who are not able to submit any proof related to their Romanian language proficiency will be automatically enrolled in the Romanian Language Preparatory Year.

 

Application

Candidates shall apply through the EvStud online platform, where they must fill in all the fields with the requested information and upload all of the registration documents mentioned below.

Candidates shall take full responsibility for the authenticity and correspondence of the submitted copies of digital/scanned documents with the original ones.

For the academic year 2026-2027, the University of Craiova allocates 55 places to foreign citizens applying to the Romanian language preparatory year, with a limit of 15 places for each country of origin (summing BA, MA, PhD and other postsecondary studies). The University of Craiova will submit to the Romanian Ministry of Education, for the issuance of the acceptance letter, the names of no more than 15 applicants from the same country of origin, in descending order of their admission grades. Places that will remain free in the first session shall be posted again in the second application session. If places remain free for some countries in the second application session, they will be redistributed in descending order of the admission grades.

Application Calendar

1st application session:

  • April 1 – April 19, 2026 – online submission of applications
  • April 20, 2026 – publication of the list of applicants
  • April 21, 2026 – publication of preliminary admission results
  • April 22-23, 2026 – study place confirmation (all applicants included on the preliminary results list must upload to the platform Annex 7 – Confirmation Form)
  • April 27, 2026 – publication of final results

 

2nd application session:

  • June 1 – June 29, 2026 – online submission of applications
  • 30 June, 2026 – publication of the list of applicants
  • July 1, 2026 – publication of preliminary admission results
  • July 2-3, 2026 – study place confirmation (all applicants included on the preliminary results list must upload to the platform Annex 7 – Confirmation Form )
  • July 6, 2026 – publication of final results

 

 

 

Required Application Documents, to be uploaded to the platform

 

For Bachelor’s Degree and postsecondary studies:

  • application form, duly filled in and signed (Annex 2 – to be submitted only by non-EU citizens), which must include a recent photo of the candidate (to be filled in capital letters);
  • high-school  graduation  diploma  or equivalent thereof  –  certified  copy  of the document in the language in which it was issued and certified translation by a notary public (in Romanian, English or French, if the original was not issued in one of these languages) - the documents are to be authenticated by the competent authorities in the issuing country; graduates of the class of 2026 whose high school diplomas haven’t been issued yet must upload the graduation certificate until the diploma is issued;
  • transcript(s) of  records  for  previous  studies  –  certified  copy or  certified translation by a notary public (in Romanian, English or French, if the original was not issued in one of these languages) and the syllabus for candidates who request validation of the studies attended for certain periods of time - the documents are to be authenticated by the competent authorities in the issuing country;
  • birth certificate – certified copy or certified translation by a notary public (in Romanian, English or French, if the original was not issued in one of these languages);
  • copy of the document certifying the permanent residency abroad;
  • passport copy – valid for at least 6 months after the beginning of the study programme for which the candidate is applying;
  • medical certificate (in Romanian, English or French), stating that the applicant does not suffer from any contagious disease or illness which is not compatible with the future profession;
  • marriage certificate, if applicable (to prove the name change), certified copy or certified translation by a notary public (in Romanian, English or French, if the original was not issued in one of these languages);
  • receipt/proof of payment of the file processing fee (if the payment was not done by mean of the online platform).

 

For Master’s Degree and other post-university studies:

  • application form, duly filled in and signed (Annex 2 – to be submitted only by non-EU citizens), which must include a recent photo of the candidate (to be filled in capital letters);
  • high-school  graduation  diploma  or equivalent thereof  –  certified  copy  of the document in the language in which it was issued and certified translation by a notary public (in Romanian, English or French, if the original was not issued in one of these languages) - the documents are to be authenticated by the competent authorities in the issuing country;

Enrolment

The documents of accepted applicants will be sent by the University of Craiova to the Romanian Ministry of Education and Research, for the issuance of the letter of acceptance. After the letter of acceptance is issued, the applicants must pay the tuition fee in full and request a study visa with the closest Romanian authority, if applicable.  The visa application is a personal matter in which the university does not interfere. In order to be enrolled at the University of Craiova, candidates must submit, in original, upon arrival: all documents included in the application file; copy of their passport and a study visa; two 3/4 photos. Candidates must submit their study documents in original upon being authenticated by the authorities in the issuing country, as follows:

  • The original study documents which are issued by states that are part of the Hague Convention shall bear the Hague Apostille of the competent authorities in the issuing country;
  • The original study documents which are issued by states that are part of the Hague Convention shall be legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the issuing country and by the Embassy/Consulate Office of Romania to the issuing country.

 

Academic Fees

Romanian ethnics are not required to pay tuition and file processing fees.

EU citizens and non-EU citizens must pay a file processing fee amounting to 1000 RON or 200 EUR to one of the following bank accounts:
