Romanian Ethnics 2026–2027


Content of the Admission File for Bachelor’s Degree Studies

a) application form – to be completed online;

b) birth certificate – copy and certified translation into Romanian or an international language;

c) passport, valid for at least six months from the beginning of the study programme – copy;

d) identity card certifying permanent residence abroad – copy;

e) marriage certificate (if applicable) – copy and certified translation into Romanian or an international language;

f) Baccalaureate diploma or equivalent diploma – copy and certified translation into Romanian or an international language; graduates of the 2026 class who have not yet received their diploma must submit a graduation certificate until the diploma is issued;

g) transcripts of records for high school studies – copy and certified translation into Romanian or an international language;

h) recommendation of the hierarchs or agreement of local religious leaders, for candidates applying to theological higher education programmes, where applicable – copy;

i) medical certificate, issued in Romanian or in an international language, allowing access to studies in the community and certifying that the applicant does not suffer from contagious diseases or other conditions incompatible with university studies – copy;

j) Declaration regarding affiliation to the Romanian Cultural Identity (Annex 3), except for citizens of the Republic of Moldova and candidates for whom at least one parent can prove Romanian citizenship, authenticated by the Romanian diplomatic mission in the country of origin (Embassy or Consulate General) – copy;

k) proof of Romanian language studies – Romanian ethnics with permanent residence abroad and a Baccalaureate diploma obtained abroad must provide proof of Romanian language proficiency through the certificate of completion of the Romanian language preparatory year. Exceptions apply to candidates presenting Romanian study documents (diplomas and certificates) or school records proving at least three consecutive years of study in Romanian within the Romanian national education system. Candidates from families of Romanian origin who acquired Romanian language skills in non-formal or informal contexts may take a Romanian language proficiency test during the admission examination;

l) statement on one’s own responsibility that the candidate has not previously benefited from education financed from the Romanian state budget and does not hold identity documents issued by Romanian authorities (Annex 6);

m) Romanian ethnics with permanent residence abroad who do not hold documents issued by the authorities of the respective country proving permanent residence abroad must submit a statement on one’s own responsibility regarding permanent residence abroad (Annex 5), accompanied by proof of residence, according to MAE Order no. 373/2024, as subsequently amended. Otherwise, establishing permanent residence in Romania leads to the loss of Romanian ethnics status.


Content of the Admission File for Master’s Degree Studies

a) application form – to be completed online;

b) birth certificate – copy and certified translation into Romanian or an international language;

c) passport, valid for at least six months from the beginning of the study programme – copy;

d) identity card certifying permanent residence abroad – copy;

e) marriage certificate (if applicable) – copy and certified translation into Romanian or an international language;

f) Baccalaureate diploma or equivalent diploma – copy and certified translation into Romanian or an international language;

g) Bachelor’s degree diploma or equivalent diploma – copy and certified translation into Romanian or an international language; graduates of the 2026 class who have not yet received their diploma must submit a graduation certificate until the diploma is issued;

h) transcripts of records/diploma supplements for high school and Bachelor’s studies – copy and certified translation into Romanian or an international language;

i) recommendation of the hierarchs or agreement of local religious leaders, for candidates applying to theological higher education programmes, where applicable – copy;

j) medical certificate, issued in Romanian or in an international language, allowing access to studies in the community and certifying that the applicant does not suffer from contagious diseases or other conditions incompatible with university studies – copy;

k) Declaration regarding affiliation to the Romanian Cultural Identity (Annex 3), authenticated by the Romanian diplomatic mission in the country of origin – copy;

l) proof of Romanian language studies – Romanian ethnics with permanent residence abroad and a Bachelor’s degree obtained abroad must provide proof of Romanian language proficiency through the certificate of completion of the Romanian language preparatory year. Exceptions apply to candidates presenting Romanian study documents or school records proving at least three consecutive years of study in Romanian within the Romanian national education system. Candidates from families of Romanian origin who acquired Romanian language skills in non-formal or informal contexts may take a Romanian language proficiency test during the admission examination;

m) statement on one’s own responsibility regarding the lack of previous Romanian state-funded studies and the absence of Romanian identity documents (Annex 6);

n) statement on one’s own responsibility regarding permanent residence abroad (Annex 5), accompanied by proof of residence, where applicable.


Content of the Admission File for PhD Studies

a) application form – to be completed online;

b) birth certificate – copy and certified translation into Romanian or an international language;

c) passport, valid for at least six months from the beginning of the study programme – copy;

d) identity card certifying permanent residence abroad – copy;

e) marriage certificate (if applicable) – copy and certified translation into Romanian or an international language;

f) Baccalaureate diploma or equivalent diploma – copy and certified translation into Romanian or an international language;

g) Bachelor’s degree diploma or equivalent diploma – copy and certified translation into Romanian or an international language;

h) Master’s degree diploma or equivalent diploma – copy and certified translation into Romanian or an international language; graduates of the 2026 class who have not yet received their diploma must submit a graduation certificate until the diploma is issued;

i) transcripts of records/diploma supplements for high school, Bachelor’s and Master’s studies – copy and certified translation into Romanian or an international language;

j) recommendation of the hierarchs or agreement of local religious leaders, for candidates applying to theological higher education programmes, where applicable – copy;

k) medical certificate, issued in Romanian or in an international language, allowing access to studies in the community and certifying that the applicant does not suffer from contagious diseases or other conditions incompatible with university studies – copy;

n) proof of Romanian language studies under the same conditions mentioned above;

o) Candidates applying for a PhD programme taught in an international language (English or French) must pass a language proficiency test for the language of instruction, graded as pass/fail (minimum level B2). Candidates holding diplomas from programmes taught in the respective language are exempted;

p) Curriculum Vitae;

q) list of published or presented scientific papers.
