Romanian Ethnics 2026–2027
General Admission Requirements (Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD Studies)
- Romanian ethnics may apply for state-funded places only for programmes taught in Romanian. Candidates who cannot provide proof of Romanian language proficiency are required to attend the Romanian language preparatory year.
- For programmes taught in foreign languages, the admission process for Romanian ethnics will obligatorily include a language proficiency test for the language of instruction, graded as pass/fail.
- Candidates who do not hold a certificate proving completion of the Romanian language preparatory year and who do not possess study documents issued for programmes taught in Romanian must take a Romanian language proficiency test (minimum level B1) as part of the admission examination, graded as pass/fail. Candidates who do not pass the language proficiency test will be enrolled in the Romanian language preparatory year. Candidates originating from families with Romanian origins who acquired Romanian language skills in non-formal or informal contexts may also take a Romanian language proficiency test within the admission examination, graded as pass/fail.
Specific Admission Requirements for Bachelor’s Degree Studies
- The application files of Romanian ethnics registered on the admission platform for specially allocated places are checked and validated by the admission committee for international students.
- Candidates will be admitted to a single Bachelor’s programme taught in Romanian, in descending order of their Baccalaureate average grade and according to the number of available places in the programmes selected during registration. If secondary studies in the country of origin do not end with a Baccalaureate examination, the average grades obtained during high school will be considered.
- If candidates have equal average grades, ranking will be made according to the following criteria:
- Average grade obtained during high school;
- Average grade obtained in the final year of high school.
- Romanian ethnic graduates holding a Baccalaureate diploma or an equivalent diploma may apply for Bachelor’s degree studies. Baccalaureate diplomas issued in the Republic of Moldova may be verified at:
https://ctice.md/verif/ab/index.php - Subsequently, the central admission committee will send the final list of admitted candidates to the Ministry of Education and Research in order to obtain the letters of acceptance.
Specific Admission Requirements for Master’s Degree Studies
- Romanian ethnic graduates holding a Bachelor’s degree diploma or an equivalent diploma may apply for Master’s degree studies.
- Romanian ethnics who graduated from accredited Bachelor’s degree programmes are eligible to apply.
- Verification of Bachelor’s diplomas submitted by Romanian ethnics is carried out as follows:
- For graduates from the Republic of Moldova, study programmes and diplomas may be verified at:

by selecting the respective country and then the section “Recognised higher education institutions”. - The application files of Romanian ethnics registered on the admission platform for specially allocated places are checked and validated by the admission committee for international students.
- Candidates will be admitted to a single Master’s programme taught in Romanian, in descending order of their Bachelor’s degree average grade and according to the number of available places in the selected programmes. If university studies in the country of origin do not end with a Bachelor’s examination, the overall average grade obtained during the completed Bachelor’s studies will be considered.
- Subsequently, the central admission committee will send the final list of admitted candidates to the Ministry of Education and Research in order to obtain the letters of acceptance.
Specific Admission Requirements for PhD Studies
Eligibility Requirements
Graduates holding a Bachelor’s degree diploma or equivalent diploma from long-term university studies, as well as graduates holding a Master’s degree diploma, may apply for admission to PhD studies.
The graduation average grade must be at least 8.00 (eight), calculated as follows:
- For graduates of long-term university studies, the arithmetic mean between the average grade of the years of study and the Bachelor’s thesis/project grade will be considered.
- For graduates of long-term university studies who also completed a Master’s programme, as well as for candidates holding a Master’s degree diploma, the arithmetic mean between the average grade obtained during the Master’s studies and the Dissertation grade will be considered.
- The minimum graduation average grade for Bachelor’s or Master’s studies may be reduced to 7.00 (seven) if the candidate proves sustained scientific research activity in the doctoral field they wish to apply for, carried out between the completion of the last university study cycle and the registration for the PhD admission colloquium. This activity must result from the candidate’s CV and list of scientific papers. In this case, the application for the PhD admission colloquium must be previously approved by the Council of the Doctoral School corresponding to the field of study, after evaluating the candidate’s CV, list of scientific papers, and the scientific papers submitted in PDF format.
