DAAD

German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) provides individual scholarships for students, graduates, postgraduates and researchers from Romania. They are funded language courses, masters and research internships in doctoral programmes at universities in Germany.

The main objectives of funding are:

1. Individual promotion (through grants)

2. Institutional funding (cooperation and academic partnerships, programs taught in German)

DAAD promotes academic cooperation between Romania and Germany. Thus, 125 German higher education institutions have concluded a total of 324 cooperation agreements with Romanian partner universities and research institutions, some of which are funded by DAAD.

In a special program for Central and Eastern Europe, DAAD promotes two institutional partnerships in German studies (University of Konstanz - University of Iaşi, University of Marburg – University of Sibiu).

A feature of the Romanian-German academic exchange is the curricula taught in German. Currently, in Romania there are more than 30 degree programs taught in German, of which four are funded by DAAD.

3. Promoting German language and culture of German studies and civilization (programs for lecturers and associate professors)

Within the programme for lecturers are currently active in higher education institutions in Romania 9 DAAD lecturers and three German language assitants. In addition, at the initiative of the Johann Gottfried von Herder Foundation, to the universities of Romania regularly come for short term, DAAD lecturers, guest professors and professor emeritus.

 4. Information and counselling about Germany as a place of study and research

Since February 2002 there has been in Bucharest a DAAD Information Centre (IC), in cooperation with the Academy of Economic Studies (ASE.). DAAD Information Centre participates in educational fairs, provides information presentations and initiates projects to promote higher education and research in Germany.
